| High Gables or Hoch Giebeln | Scale: 2mm:1 foot Period: Various Location: Fictitious British or German Size: 3'6 x 2' (approx.) | High Gables was constructed by member Derek Willis to act as a demonstration and Drive It Yourself layout. The layout can be caried by one person and fits in the smallest of cars. It has no fiddle yard but features a double track mainline with stations, loops and sidings. It shows what can be created in a small space in 'N' gauge. This layout is different to most in that it has been designed with two controllers mounted at the front of the layout with a small switch panel at the back. This allows visitors to drive the layout themselves for a small donation and in return get a certificate of "Good Driving". The layout is hugely popular with younger visitors and because of its size can be taken almost anywhere to local events where the club is able to promote forthcomming exhibitions and provide something a bit different at a small event such as a craft fair. With a quick change of rolling stock and signs, the layout is also exhibited in German form as Hoch Giebeln. |
